You can easily pedal the TI solo all day when it's calm or even in winds up to 10 mph or so. But if you're fighting strong winds or a strong current and your speed goes below 2 mph you'll begin to loose rudder control and that can be dangerous. There have been times where I could not get back to the launch area because of strong winds which came up later in the day using only the pedals myself. So just be aware of that. That's why I'm now considering this when I sail solo:

Hobie has its own torqueedo: Hobie Evolve, http://www.hobiecat.com/accessories/evolve/

Personally, I always go out with the sail. If fishing, floating about, just furl the sail, put the main sheet out of the way and do your fishing.

What is a TA?
Tandem Adventure -- This distinguished the Kayak version (monohull only) of the Tandem Island. The term is no longer relevant since the Adventure kayak has been renamed the Revolution 16. the Tandem Adventure was never sold as such by Hobie or officially recognized as a name.

Yes, thank you, I'm aware of that. I prefer the Torqueedo 403 because it doesn't use up a Mirage Drive slot, the battery has more capacity, and it costs considerably less.
