I am a TI owner from South Australia, and my wife and I will be in Hawaii for 3 1/2 weeks from the 25th of April. We land and have 2 days in Honolulu, and have made no firm plans after that. We are very excited about coming to explore this unique part of the world for the first time.
I would love to get out on a TI or AI while in Hawaii, having read so much on the forum about beautiful weather, huge fish, and of course the amazing Haka bench (see my post on a very utilitarian aluminium version, still going strong)
I have looked in vain online for any Islands for hire.
Can any locals advise me on whether there are Hobie Islands for hire anywhere, where the best sailing spots might be, any Hobie clubs or sailing groups that might take a visitor out for a sail, and any other general tips?
Can't wait to get on that plane

Alastair

Which other Islands will you be visiting?

On Oahu, Windward Boats is the Hobie dealer. On Kauai and Hawaii (big Island) P&P Kayaks. On Maui, Adventure Sports.

Thanks Kayaking Bob
I am a happy user for years now of your spray skirts, without which our sailing in the cooler months down here in Oz would be a great deal less comfortable.
We haven't decided yet where we will go - probably Maui and The Big Island, but we are keen to see the quieter and less travelled places - and of course to go for at least one Island sail.
Do the dealers you mention hire out boats?

Some dealers do, depending on availability and conditions. Problems here include transporting them. You can't just throw a +200# TI on top of a rental car and rental cars don't come with a trailer hitch. :?

Maybe check in with the local dealer on each Island visited. Most have a Hobie Island Club and could put you in touch with fellow Island sailors.

If you end up on Maui, give me a shout. It would be nice to meet and maybe get a sail in.

Thanks Kayaking Bob for the tips. We are indeed spending time on Maui, staying in Kihei for 11 days from 26th April.
It would be wonderful to meet you, and the idea of a sail with a Hobie legend is pretty exciting. Please do not feel under any obligation, but some local advice will be really useful. If we may, we will contact you when we arrive

Regards

Alastair
