rack with pvc guides for TI

I want to build a rack that could be mounted either to a roof rack (Thule aerobars) or my Harbor Freight trailer. When I tow my camping trailer, the boat would go on the truck's roof, but on shorter trips near home it's much easier to use the boat trailer. Ideally it would use a pair of 8 ft. pvc tubes riding in the channels on the bottom of the hull. Has anyone made such a beast (either for roof or trailer or both) and have pictures? The biggest quandry I'm having is how to secure the pvc pipes to the frame without having a protrusion like a bracket or bolt head that would gouge the boat. I've been searching in this forum and haven't come up with search terms that yielded much.

The PVC tubing is so inexpensive (enough to do any rack is under ten bucks), so why bother making some fancy all solution kind of rack.
Sure I have pvc racks on my HF trailer, but I bolted them on there like 3yrs ago and haven't needed to touch them since.
I also have Thule Aero racks for my truck (for truck topping our TI when towing our camper (because the trailer hitch is occupied)).
I like to keep things simple (and inexpensive).

My plan when car topping is to slide the TI up onto the Thule racks over my gmc sierra short bed. I then plan to just slide two loose PVC pipes (either 1" dia or 1 1/4" dia, I don't recall which right now (whichever a standard wood broom handle fit inside easily)).

The plan is to just use the ten ft lengths with wooden broom handles slid into the PVC (probably two wooden handles in each tube). Slide the tubes under the boat (in those nice grooves Hobie provided on 11 inch centers). Then just strap the boat to the Thule bars just like that. I have no plans to screw the pvc to the roof rack (there is no point).
I don't plan on doing anything else besides just straps around the Thule bars with the AMA tucked one on each side of the hull, then a bow and stern line.
The PVC tubing with the broom handles inside will support and distribute all the weight properly and shouldn't allow any hull distortion. When not useng the pvc I'll just throw the tubes in the corner of the garage.
I have had the exact same setup on my trailer with the boat sitting on it for three years with no distortion problems.
I haven't tried it yet, we won't be leaving till june, but I expect the TI to live up there on the roof all summer. I guess we will find out (lol)
