Has anybody mounted an 8" YakAttack rail w/backing plate behind the centerboard lever?

viz: https://picasaweb.google.com/1081497986 ... 1885578386

Seems like the backing plate *should* fit... but I can't get my fingers up behind the drinking cup well to make sure there is enough flat space inside.... and I am reluctant to drill holes before knowing for sure.

I have a 4" rail that is 1.5" back from the centerboard lever that works fine. I started it at 1.5" back due to ease of putting the screws on. You can always tape the backing plate to the bottom and then try to work a camera under there with video on to see how much room you have. Not a lot of room to work in, you may need a small child's help getting the bolts started.

I bought a couple of what YakAttack callse "Rigging Bullets" and would consider them a good deal even at twice the price: http://www.yakattack.us/RB1420_p/rb1420.htm

For the benefit of anybody else on this little journey.....

8": Nope.

I went ahead - but, expecting trouble, only drilled the two middle holes and put the bullets in them.

Sure enough, it was jamming on the aft end - apparently on the curvature of the hull there. Maybe 1/4"....

So I cut off an inch from both backing plate and track so now I had a 7" track/backing plate instead of 8".

7" finally fit - but it was till something of a jam fit.....I kept tightening up the screws a half-turn at a time for maybe 30 minutes as the backing plate seemed to settle in to the poly.

Not sure where/how, but I suspect that mounting it in the center (left-right-wise) was the problem. Probably should have moved it 1/8" or so inboard of center.

Would have been totally impossible without the bullets.... but even with the bullets, a child's small hands might have made a diff.
