18' overall, I think.
But how long is each section (bottom measured without the ferrule i.e. from the line where the two sections meet)?
Having mostly abandoned fantasies of a meter or two more sail area, I am now considering further cruel and unusual treatment of my 2015 AI: raising the entire sail by 4-8".
Right now, between being taller than most, the scrim area having gone pretty much cloudy, and the scrim area not going high enough anyhow.... I am sorely lacking situational awareness when navigating areas with power boat traffic.
Sooner-or-later, it's going to bite me and I want do something before I become the subject of a newspaper article.
Raising the sail 6-8" would do the trick.
I see 3 options:
- Substitute the lower mast section with a TI section. ..... Probably fighting nature because it sounds like Hobie will not sell a TI mast without the furling drum - which would have to be removed/replaced a little higher, at risk of damaging the mast section in the removal process.
. - Substitute the upper mast section with a TI section.... assuming the ferrules are the same diameter.
. - Fabricate a mast tip extension.
. - Modify an AI sail to fit the stock TI mast by trimming top and bottom and, at the same time, raising the clear area. ..... Sounds iffey to me and I don't really want to go there.
#2, of course would be the ideal in terms of being a "Bolt-Over".... i.e. pull out one piece, put in another piece and go...
