Great trip! Just one question and observation
How much of the water proved to be excess?
and, racing yachts keep weight out of the ends, to improve motion through waves, so instead of placing the water containers at the ends, it would have been better to have them together in the middle

I started with too much weight four 2.5 gallon jugs water, spearfishing gears and camping gears the kayak sit way too low already.
That was about 3-4 gallons in the hull. I realized that too putting too much weight in the front does not help with performance.

Just one 2.5 gallon container probably would have been enough. When I go camping with my TI, I freeze 2 or 3 litre milk cartons filled with water as ice for the cooler. These solid blocks of ice take much longer to melt than typical crushed ice you buy at the petrol station. About 2 litres per day for drinking each plus one litre for cooking for two would be about right. So that's about a gallon a day (five litres). I like to split it up into one litre lots as it is easier to store those not needed in the cooler, and leakage of one is then not a dire situation. (I keep a 2 litre container of water on board all the time.. you never know when you might need it)

No matter, you both had a ball, and no doubt learned heaps about "expedition" type trips. The Islands are made for this kind of adventure.
