Maybe you all have already seen this.

Mechanicmike69 has a similar point of view as mine, and a similar solution.
Starting with identification of the problem, the mismatch between hatch and cover.
Also going for ONE seal that does the job correct and making the second seal an extra security.

Personally I don't understand how anyone can accept gallons of water inside the hull no matter what conditions you been sailing in. The worse conditions the more important it is that you can trust your boat and keep the water out.

If you think there will be a problem with an absolutely airtight boat, there is a very easy solution to solve this.
Just drill a 1 mm hole in the hull in a place where it is not likely to take in water.
Just to let the hull breath due variations in temperatur.
