Chris:
We have always been avid kayakers, once we got the ti we found we could go further out by using the ti as the mothership. We had the ti and two revo 13's for a while. We would take the ti out with 2-3 people on board the ti then one in each revo with the bows tucked under the rear aka bars and each person hanging on to the rear carry handles. With 4 mirage drives and everyone pedaling we could get pretty good headway even in really light winds. However steering is a little difficult without the revos helping to steer with their rudders. Same with a kayak just on one side steering is near impossible. We found that towing the raft about 15 ft directly behind the ti gave us the least resistance and didn't interfere with steering. No if we have extra kayaks I have them hold onto the raft or string the boats single file.
Actually we have towed other stock TI's with our sooped up ti several times with pretty good success. The trick there is a 25ft or longer nylon rope (like an anchor line). What we did was tie on my boat to the rear aka brace (where it hooks to the hull) . I had the other boat tie the other end to their front aka bar right near the sail (with a slip knot). We then take off sailing (obviously with all my sails up and the motors running) I had the other ti sail maintaining position in my rear quarter (in clean air) off to one side. With both boats sailing I only loose 1-2 mph in speed (I was amazed at that). On one occasion we had about 5-6 miles to cover, up wind in 5-6 mph winds to try and catch up with the rest of the group of TI's. It was rocky at first because they were expert sailers and kept on trying to tack upwind on me. I finally had to explain that with my wing sail we have no need to tack at all, I instructed them to pull their sail as tight as possible then use their rudder to track behind me maintaining about 150 degrees angle behind my boat. Once they got the hang of it we made pretty good headway (around 7-8mph) and caught up with the rest of the group quickly.
Obviously our ti is our family boat and we over use it for way too much stuff, but we continue to have a blast with the boat.
We did try to haul gear on our revos and they simply flipped over too easily in waves (offshore).
The single biggest issue when trying to tow surf boards, kayaks or zodiacs is steering, we only have success towing something tied to the rear center of the ti and some distance back.
Hope this helps
Bob

Thanks Bob, you saved me a lot of field work. I hadn't thought about the effect on steering using the Revo as a sidecar but I had a feeling that towing it without a pilot would be problematic.

A few weeks ago I saw a Pro Angler with at least two adults and a kid on it towing an inflatable raft with two more kids in it as you described. I love the versatility of these boats.
