Your poist reminded me of some omissions. Apart from the strobe built into the PLB, I have another in the drybag, while I have a serrated edge knife in its scabbard attached to my PFD. A 2 litre bottle of fresh water lives under my skipper seat (and I add more into the rear hatches for long trips).

There is a lot of debate about the advisability of being tethered to the vessel, but I reckon it would be too easy for an Island to sail away from you, so for offshore trips I add a 20 foot long tether which is attached to my wader belt by a carabiner, the other end being tied to a crossmember. To keep it tidy, it is looped and pushed into a pvc tube, so it will easily come out when tension is applied.

I would always prefer to be branded over cautious, than to find myself in trouble because I ignored the risks.

Tonystot - I see from your post you have a skipper seat installed. I too have one installed. I would be interested to know how you fitted yours. Mine feels quite high but is comfortable and dry. Under the front of my seat is secured a tube, this tube is secured to the hull with 2 saddle clips. Under the rear of the seat is fitted another tube, this rests on the hull enabling the seat to pivot up to access the wet storage area where the old seat rested. I'm OS ATM so can't attach pics until my rtn.

I opted for a simple solution, a 12mm thick marine ply platform spanning the hull and resting on both rails (I am a really big bloke (140kgs), with a support structure as follows. Cord loops at the rear attached to the crossbar suffice as "hinges" if I need to lift the seat.

Here is the platform, before I attached the seat

This also allows space below for a 2 litre water bottle, plus my "air conditioner" (a 500ml plant spray bottle which is extremely refreshing when the mist hits the face LOL)
