Doing a bit more thinking on this... clearly, using a sea anchor out the back to slow your passage through the breakers is a great idea. Would it make sense to make up a bridle permanently attached on either side of the rear crossbar, with the two lines merging aft of the rudder, and then have the single line running back to a permanent attachment to the sea anchor.

You could bundle it all up (even in a small bag) and keep it under a bungee on the rear deck.

Then, when approaching the breakers, you don't need to repurpose the mainsheet, or muck around with the clew of the sail, simply jettison the sea anchor.

Just a suggestion.

NOHUHU posted while I was drafting mine.. yes, I agree that carabiners are far more secure than snapshackles, and I don't have any of the latter on my TI either.
