I wonder if switching from a flat batten to a round batten caused that.

Before the round battens, the flutter was extending over more of the leech.

I wonder if it is just an artifact of using such thin material - and without any mylar backing.

I have some 1" webbing and maybe I will try using it as bias tape and edge that area - like Hobie does the lower edge of the sail except more robustly.... and as AeroTech does on it's WindSUP sails: http://www.the-house.com/aewins48as14zz ... oCXEnw_wcB

The other possibility I can think of is that the sail has become somewhat "Blown Out" - i.e. the fabric has stretched in the area between mast and #1 batten. Sails made with mylar sandwich do tend to get blown out....
