The rigged weight for those of us who do not speak Aussie is 142#. Capacity is 400#. Everything is a bit larger than previous models. I'll miss the large rear surface storage. 142# is a bit more than I like, but hopefully, the extra weight has gone into beefing up the 2015 AI in all the right places. Still plan to upgrade one AI this year. No side handles in the Hobie site picture. Link to all info & picture: http://www.hobiecat.com/mirage/mirage-adventure-island/

I'm glad they kept the old Adventure hull but I'm very disappointed it looks as if the Daggerboard slot has been dropped.
One of my upgrade options would have been to get a new TI, sell the AI and get the upgraded Adventure (Revolution 16) to use in my commute.
Having no DB slot is a real blow to my future sailing ambitions and is a backward step Hobie! :(
The DB is the best sailing accessory offered. Looks like I'll be re-doing a lighter drivewell plug DB slot if I do go ahead with an upgrade.

Looking at the picture on the site the rudder looks like the old style twist and stow. Didn't they upgrade the island to match the TI rudder a few models ago? Wouldn't this be a step back?

Ok, looking at the site again there are conflicting pictures. One shows the standard up/down rudder and one shows the twist and stow type. ????

Ignore the photo's as they take a long time to be updated. I seem to remember that after the new Oasis was introduced the old style hull pics were showing for ages.
The spec pic shows the correct up/down new style rudder.

You guys really getting upset about the lack of handles? I'd much rather a hull with no handles than the water-scoopers that they had. A simple fix will be to attach a webbing handle on either side. They're not expensive, they're not difficult to fit, and you can put them where you want them. Whats the problem?

Yes, I am disappointed the handles have gone and yes it's not hard to fit webbing handles but surely it would have been better to fix the water funnelling and keep the handles?
Hobie has a fluid mechanics engineer after all!
Webbing handles aren't really the same as the nicely designed and integrated handles we had.
With the higher sides, raised mesh seat, and the new Venturi scupper valve, getting splashed is no longer the issue it was.
But handling a heavier, bulkier hull with no handles ...hmmm. :(

Looks like the sail now has 3 battens.

Looks like 2015 Sport, Outback, Revolution, Revolution 13, 16, Outfitter, Oasis, and AI, but NOT TI gets vantage seats etc. ..... GRRRR

http://m.hobiecat.com/mirage/

Now I wonder if this out lay of 2015s didnt include upgrades to the TI, or Hobie is waiting until later in the year to offer them.

I know I'm going to be pissed if they don't upgrade the TI! I specifically held off and got a 2015 because if the coming upgrades. Let's hope Stringy is right and they are just slow to update their site.

A source just informed me that TI indeed has yet to receive the same upgrades... hopefully later in the year.

It looks like Hobie has been a bunch of busy beavers over the last few months. Think about it, to put the new seats on every model required major modifications to every mold, these molds are not small, actually they are almost as big as a small car, and probably almost as heavy. On top of all that they brought out a totally new model boat (PA 17), which I think is totally awesome BTW, and a total re-design on the Adventure Island. (WOW)
I'm in that business (building molds), and it is no small task modifying those huge molds, especially Hobies molds which are 2-3 times more "high tech" than anything else out there ( rotomolds) (that's one thing hobie knows how to do very well). There are only a few CNC machines and shops with the lifting and shop capacity in the country to even setup and machine those kinds of molds (you can count on one hand).

Keep in mind Hobie is a very very small company, this year they have done leaps and bounds more than anything I have ever seen from them. I'm pretty impressed.
The TI is their flagship, and I'm sure they want to get it right, and with everything else going on, I'm sure the TI upgrades are a little behind schedule. I'm sure they are not going to let us down.

Bob
