Looks like an extra bungee on the amas - what's that for?

This is a first prototype photo taken months ago - so don't read too much into the details.

Basically in production there will be a extra fitting with a bungee loop to keep the ama's folded in - the old Islands had a bungee loop on the aka arm - but we're going to a new setup that works better. This photo though doesn't have the final design - it won't dangle like that.

The double bungees on the akas is standard now on AI and TI.

The new manual is available for download on our product support page - here's a link: http://static.hobiecat.com/digital_assets/89601-adventure-island-manual-141027.pdf

It shows the new arrangement. (pages- 13 & 29)

That Steering Riser (P41) is a great idea, well done guys.

Hmmm I may need to lenghten the trailer if the Amas push back that far folded.

Many thanks for posting the AI Manual and photos. Have a Great Christmas and New Year.

Cheers, XD

Question for Matt.
How long is the AI with the amas folded. The old AI on my trailer just fits in my garage.

Here is the image from page 29 of the 2015 AI manual--you can make your own guess about how far the amas extend back when folded.

Image

My rough estimate is that the folded amas extend 18" beyond the end of the stern.
Remember, the 2015 hull is also a bit longer than previous models.

I will have both a 2011 and 2015 AI. I bought the Trailex AI (double) trailer for the previous model AI. Looking at the above image, it appears that I may have to modify my trailer to handle both AIs. Hogman, you may have to make an addition to your garage.

It's about 16'8" all folded up. The drawing is a little misleading. The back of the amas are nearly lined up with the leading edge of the rudder blade when the rudder is up.

I just ran out and measured my 2011 AI, and it is 16'6" from the rear edge of the vertical rudder to the tip of the bow.

Looking at all the pics it looks like santas elves have been very busy at the Hobie factory, it looks like they are keeping the naughty and nice piles separated (with the red ones naughty). I suspect this next generation of boats will be even more popular. Good for Hobie.

Perfect, no trailer mods for me then. Thanks Brendan.
The next thing I have to see is the cradles, but, that can wait till next year.

Just put a deposit down on a 2015 dune colored TI. The only thing is.. I wish it came with a black trim sail vs. the blue.. very small nit pick...

I have always thought the AI is the cooler looking boat but I think I am going to really enjoy the TI..
