Ended up at somerset dam sat arvo, had a sail up there it was great, stayed the night with some mates who were camping up there, My mate Eddie had set some redclaw pots so i went out with him sun morning to check the pot's ended up with seventy odd reclaw, made sun nights meal perfect.
Sun was a dead loss so concentrated on building a cradle for the TI got the main frame done just need to carpet it now, ready for next weekend if the weathers fine.
This weather is giving me the (censored)'s, the same thing use to happened every time I brought a motor bike/boat.

When I heard we were having 90km/h winds I contemplated the experience of an AI on Lake Cootharaba (part of Noosa River).....momentarily.

Weather has been awful and I poked my nose out last Thursday from Manly and went back in!!!

Anyone who recently got a Hobie TI that had Hobie Australia do a Retrofit ...BEWARE!!!

I had to remove rudder assembly due to a break in tone of the parts (Thanks Mal for helping out so fast!!!)

Note:

Apart from them NOT doing retrofit properly I also found...

NO loctite on drum bolt!!!!!!! (suggest people do it!!!)

The bracket mounted to hull (pivot mount) was loose AND NO LOCTITE!!!

Brickbats Hobie Australia!!!!

I could not help myself and fitted... (since I couldn't go sailing due to fierce weather)

Lowrance x67 colour fishfinder

cleat to be able to furl sail from rear seat (wait until you try it with standard from rear seat on basic setup!!!)

Also from Mal got a Lowrance handheld VHF radio (nice piece of kit with buddy list, gps, DSC, etc, etc..$250!!!! good price)

Just curious about your rear furling cleat.... did you run the line down the gunwales through some fairleads or what?

no just straight through!

I am not worried about it causing double cleating as it is less of a problem than what happened when I couldn't cleat from rear seat properly (that was fun!)

I am happy to release twice if I need to from rear seat (or using a small tube lock open front cleat)

I feel that if I have a front seat passenger that is a job they can do o happy to run it direct.

Only problem is unless you have the right size tap to thread the cross brace you will have to buy one..small price to pay though!

Will let you know how it goes!! (can always move it)

Max

I have a Harken block the same as supplied with Hobie.

TAP-8-32C-TPR-CS 8-32 UNC (4.166mm) from smallparts.com.au based in Brisbane. About $8. Drillbit I suggest to use 3.4mm but be careful!

Funny thing is when I got my block the nuts were loose on the threads so not sure if bolts are as standard????? (nyloc did not even touch the threads)

In any case you don't use the nylocs. (so it was not important)

No problem!

Saw your rear seat fishing vid.. I am waiting for 2 Ally Ram tubes and space save mounts to come as well. Also some Hobie extension rod holders for the rear!

With the rear furling cleat and rod holders mounted just rear of the crossbar trolling should be way cool!

(Shame I am going away soon and probably won't get much time to try it out!!)

Max - I saw on a post somewhere you have a mark across the hull you thought was from the distributor transporting it....After using a Harken lifter I also have a mark across the hull. I picked mine up direct from distributor who got direct delivery from Hobie..... Pretty sure it won't effect the boat though!

I've just received a 'C' size RAM tube mount, which I'll fix to the rear aka, and mount a RAM rod holder. I'm not particularly agile, so I think this setup will be more comfy for me, and I should be able to angle the rod outboard enough to avoid the mainsheet.

I do have a bit of a dent on the underside of my main hull, probably from transportation, but it's not bad so I'm not fussed about it.

Mal

The ones I got are RAM-119-HOB1 RAM TUBE ROD HOLDER W/2x2.5 HOBIE from Sunstate... Mount will be on sides just to rear of cross brace so I can reach them. They are Ally so will double as a wacker if I need it for the fish. Are pretty solid units.

Considered mounting on AKA but was talked out of it...what if I use the boat without outrigger...no fishing rod holders!!!
