Suggestion for new Hobie accesory - Splash Shield.

Note the attached photos. I first had this idea after buying the Adventure Island. Two of the photos are from my AI. I cut a piece of plexi-glass into a rectangle, approximately 5’ x 1’, and then rounded the edges. Note that I also made semi circle shaped cuts to fit over the main AMA bar and the mainsheet rope.
Then I drilled small holes into the plexiglass about 6”-8” above the attachment areas and threaded small bungee cord loops through the holes such that they could be easily stretched to grab the AMA bar on each side. I also did the same with a bungee cord in the center of the windshield to attach to a newly installed plastic hook mounted on the top of the kayak, just in front of the mast hole (not in view on photos).

Voilas! For about seven bucks of materials, and an hour of work, I now have a very easy to use, remove, transport, and store, windshield splashguard! It works great and has withstood three foot waves crashing over the bow. I then slightly modified it to work on my TI. (I had to cut the bottom of the plexiglass to somewhat larger semicircles for the bigger AMA bar, and also attach a small knob on the plexiglass to wrap the bungee.)

(sorry, can't find where to post .jpg photos)

CoachM, the Hobie forums do not allow direct insertion of figures. You need to post your jpegs on a photohosting site such as Photobucket.com. Once your photos are available on the hosting site, then get the link to a particular image--copy and paste it into your Hobie post. Select the link and click the "Img" button above.

If you use Photobucket, once your jpegs are uploaded, and saved in an album, then simply slide your cursor over the image, and various items appear underneath the image. Pick off the second one, copy it--that is the link you need to insert into your Hobie post.

You will have to join Photobucket.com. It works very nicely.

Just remember, anything, even slightly vertical, will act as an additional sail and will change the sailing characteristics in higher winds. Just a small change on one of my Sprayskirts, stopped that boat from coming across the wind in lighter winds, and couldn't point as high into the wind, than any of the others AI's. In lighter winds, it shouldn't be a problem, and probably looks great. I await to see the pictures too.

Here's a post on adding pictures to your posts: http://www.hobiecat.com/community/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=12574
