I took a river-sailing trip. The AI is perfect for this. I put in near Defiance, MO on the Missouri river, and sailed to the confluence with the Mississippi. 45 miles, 7 hours.
I started on a no-wind day, and with the current of 3-6 mph, I always had a head wind. tack-tack-tack. Later in the day, some real wind happened, and when it was down-river at 5 mph, I had no apparent wind and had to peddle.
The next week, I went back and finished the tripo to the St. Louis Arch (16 miles, 3 hours).
The last part of that trip had real wind blowing upsteam. My apparent wind was about 15-18 mph, with wind-induced white-caps and 3 ft swells. The AI preformed admirably.
These rivers are great fun. Like a big lake that moves. Of course you need retrieval.
I could sail upstream, just about fast enough to bring speed-over-ground to zero. I could peddle upstream, but that is hard work, and the river does get tired.
the AI was made for river sailing!
