I have 2 older islands and the sail bags are both black canvas with a white stamped "Hobie" logo. A friend recently got a 2011 yellow AI and the sail bag was a gray plastic material like a polyethylene weave used in cheap tarps.

Is this a fluke or all sail bags no longer in the black canvas?

There is only one part # 79510201 and the newest catalog shows it in canvas

Thanks

I read this same question last month, from "bosab" - but it was in regards to a Tandem Island's sail bag. The question about the sail bag was included within a long post and was never really addressed on its own, or answered (that I can recall).

"Only other issue with this otherwise great boat is the sail bag. The demo boats had real nice marine cloth sail bag, this model has a nicely sewn polytarp bag. It is functional but way less impressive than the cloth bag. Maybe a supply issue?"

Specifications do change from time to time. May be due to supply of material or different vendors.

No worries. I have enticed quite a few people to buy Hobies including a few AIs and when I saw the new sail bag it had be wondering.

I agree with Bobsab about the bag being "functional but way less impressive than the cloth bag"

If the tarp bag is more waterproof than the canvas it might help keep the sail dryer when transporting in the rain.
