Forum followers may recall that I had a cracked drive well in my boat, and Hobie replaced the hull last December. Shamefully, my new boat has been sitting on the trailer since then, until yesterday, when I just could not stand it any longer. The weather folks were saying 20 knots of wind, but up here on the creek it was more like 10 gusting to 30. Nothing like a 30 knot blast to make the new boat seem faster than the old one!

When you said it was faster, I just assumed that the new one was red. hmmm.. Guess I was wrong. 8)

What is that black thing that you have under the bungees at the front?

Nah, I was kidding. It's another yellow one, so not really faster. ;)

The black thing is the daggerboard sheath. I usually remove it prior to launch but forgot, so I stuck it there to keep it from blowing away.

Fast indeed! You should try an outhauler on that rig, to really see it fly downwind,

Is that a 2010 or 2011 hull?

Daggerboard sheath... hmmm... that's what I thought it looked like. I never got one of those. :(

I'm not sure why I keep that thing around. My daggerboard is all scratched up from numerous encounters with the bottom. In between trips, nothing happens to it that is anywhere near as bad as what happens when I start using it. ;)

Funny I didn't get one either, though like Tom, I sense it is more trouble than it is worth so I am not losing any sleep over it I can tell you....Pirate

Hah! If you do start losing sleep over it, Pirate, just send me a self-addressed and prepaid shipping box and I'll ship mine to you!

It's just a couple of pieces of wetsuit foam sewn together with a Hobie logo on it.

Maybe they don't come with the boats any more, or they may have been overlooked at some point along the way.

Hobie AI's arrive at the dealership bubble-wrapped and partially assembled, and the rest of the pieces all come on one big box. Sometimes, a piece doesn't make it into that box. That is rare.

Even if the piece makes it to the dealership, it won't necessarily stay with the boat it came with. For example, we put two boats together, one of each color, and we put all the stuff that came with those boats in one place. Then, some of it would sometimes go to a boat show, and usually return, often being put back where it belongs...

Tom,
I'm amazed at how little windswell you get in your location. With those conditions you get some serious speed up. 8)
Here if it's blowing 30 knots the accompanying swell stops any speed record. :(

As far as I'm aware the daggerboard sheath only came with the original fibreglass daggerboards.
It was discontinued with the introduction of the black nylon DB's.

I'm up in a very protected, narrow creek in that video. The harbor would have been a frothy mess that day, and I wanted to stay dry.
