I vote for a single forum for both. They are very similar boats sharing some of the same parts and very similar parts. They have some similar issues: rudder, corrosion, mast support, tramps, scupper holes, leaks, etc. I have several friends with TIs, so I like to read what is going on with them.

I suppose I don't really care one way or another but it seems like a lot of these issues Keith are TI related not AI. It's getting harder to sift through all the threads to find out what issues are occurring on what Hobie.
I'm looking at a new AI and have in the back of my mind all these problems but it seems that although the TI's and AI's share the same bits, the AI's don't have a rudder, mast support, scupper hole problem. Please correct me if I'm wrong. If any 2011
AI owners out there disagree please speak out now before I part with my 'hard earned'. Howz your's going Pirate ?
Hi Slaughter. I really do appreciate the new 2011 dune AI and its improvements over the 2009 model and am very happy with it. I have had it out quite a few times now and no problems at all, but there are issues as seen in this forum.
I agree with the potential for electrolysis issues with the akas between metals and I am going to drill out my rivots and replace them. That said the ease of attaching the akas to the hull is a huge advantage.
The new rudder as provided stays down if cleated without the bungy which I have cut off. My old boat's rudder stayed in place without cleating. The new promised rudder will make it even better. I believe the new improved transom design is a big improvement which better pin design.
The new tiller arm is just great being larger, softer and easier to steer with.
I love the dune which is an understated colour, resistant to showing damage and
great for fishing.
My belief for problems with some of the gear we read here that is failing and we share with our large sister the TI, is that while it is perfect for our rigs and is most unlikely and almost impossible to bust, is doing so much more work when attached to the TI which is bigger all round and much more demanding on it. Like Mickey stated with his attachment bungys akas to amas which need to be extremely tight or they rub the fittings around. And the overpowered rudder that has caused a major headache for Hobie, the kart issues under the TI which has caused damage because of excess weight etc. Maybe the Ti is just getting too big and heavy to be made in plastic. We will have to wait and see. Having said that I have looked admiringly at Mickey's new TI, and they look gorgeous don't they.
Anyway I would finally like to say that I still believe the similarities and common equipment we share between the AI/TI make reading about both craft very interesting and I would be disappointed to see this forum split up...Pirate
