So ok I took a plunge and purchased a brand new yellow tandem island via Ebay from a shop in California and had it shipped here in Florida Tampa Bay.
Assembling it was almost too easy so Im starting to doubt myself.
I only see those bungee cords holding Amas attached to Akas. Am I missing something or thats all that holding them together? What happens if you catch a wave or something, do Amas stay in place?
I assembled it in my backyard so if I setp on Amas they detach themselves and stretch the bungee cords. If that's it, then how long those bungee cords last?
Also, IM confused as what those cup looking things called lanyards. I just don't get explanation in the manual.
Thanks for all the info you can provide... Can't wait till this Sunday to take it on the water for a test run.

Yes... the bungees hold the amas on well. The water pushes up, so the only time they get any action is when flying an ama.

The cup looking parts are Scupper plugs. They plug the cargo area scuppers if your want to try and keep something more dry back there.

Kommy000,

Welcome to the owners club.
Two best things in the world a Jeep and a Hobie and just like the Jeep you'll be inching to mod the Hobie in no time.

Thank you guys for a quick reply.
Got another stupid question. I would like to register my tandem island on the site for warranty purposes and it asks for a hull number.
Where do I find it??
Is it somewhere inside?
Thanks

The hull number is also annotated on the "manufacture's statement of origin".
The statement should have been included with your TI.

Kommy000:
I have a motor on my TI and the boat is over 16 ft long (apparently a grey area in the Florida rules) so my TI has to be registered in Florida.

To get the boat registered and titled in Florida you need to have the 'Manufacturers statement of origin' from Hobie (usually sent to the original dealer). It is much easier to get that document sooner rather than later (while the boat is still new).
In my case (before I got my motor), I was pulled over by the park police and told I should register the boat because it is over 16 ft. I've been told by some that the officer was incorrect. But I'm sure if that same officer saw me again a few weeks later I would have recieved a ticket, plus I was planning to add a motor eventually so I registered the boat ( I think it was around $12-$15 dollars or so).
In my area (around Sarasota, and Key West) there are a lot of TI's, mine is the only one I have ever seen that is registered. Personally I wouldn't register your TI unless someone in authority tells you too do so, or you are adding a motor, trolling motor, or Evolve system. But just in case it's probably a good idea to have that Manufacturers statement of origin in your posession. You don't know what your going to be doing with the boat a year from now (they are by far the most versatile boat on the market today), and you simply cannot register a boat without that document in Florida ( I tried for repeatedly for months). I was also told by the tag office that it's not legal to sell a used boat without an MSO.
Have fun with your new boat, theirs bunches of us in this area, it's always fun to sail with others. Welcome to the Hobie life.
Bob
