I'm shopping for a TI (accepting that I'm a paddler wanting to work less on open water, not become a sailor). The weight seems rather disconcerting. I expect a trailer and wheeled cart are going to be must haves. I expect to be 50% trailer launching, 30% rolling down to water on dirt, and 20% rolling across stretches of sand (which will change after we get going). Either way, I'll be walking it up to a hundred yards/meters. If we're not trailer launching, we're probably packing gear for a couple day trip.
I'm trying to compare the Hobie Trax 2-30 with cradles and the full Kayak Dolly. My searching finds the Kayak Dolly is recommended over the smaller Kayak Cart, but comments say it is hard to take with you. Comments on the carts suggest risks of hull damage, but all of my results were a couple years old.
Does the recommendation for the Dolly over the Cart still stand?
Are there still issues with the plug-in Cart w/cradles when used appropriately?
Will I need both cart wheel types, or will the beach cart work over dirt/sticks/rocks acceptably?
Any comments/suggestions from owners of these?
