Went on a demo ride on a 2015 model using a 2013 sail and mast. We had winds gusting to maybe 20 mph a full sail and about 550 lbs on board. We lost our sail. The mast came down, snapping just above the roller furler. I wonder how common is this type of failure. Any opinions?

We had a few issues with Tandem Island Masts. Not typical by any means.

550 lbs is nearing the max weight and a full sail in 20 knots is a LOT of load on the rig.

Thanks Matt!
I appreciate your product experience and advice.

I've seen many videos such as this.. https://youtu.be/UvvmHbhOsBs

Much higher wind speeds and a very forgiving mast!
Help me understand.
