Starting on the trailer bunks..... 2" PVC conduit...

I am assuming that my main concern is supporting the flat part of the hull.

Looks to me like there is about 78" of flat that begins 57" from the bow and ends 57" from the stern.

How does that line up with Official Hobie Reality?

FWIW for others going this route: I tried leaving the AI on two 2" x 10' PVC bunks - with only 2 support points 48" apart - overnite.

At the outset it *looked* pretty good..... I put sheets of waxed paper between the hull and the bunks along what I thought was the flat and the waxed paper was tight all the way along the flat.

The next morning I flipped the hull over and checked it with a 4' alu straightedge..... Surprise ! Surprise. !......OK, maybe not such a surprise...... the flat wasn't flat anymore..... got about 1/16" of indentation a foot-or-so either side of where the PVC rested on the aft crossbar........

Conclusion: Two crossbars 48" apart with 2" PVC pipe as bunks is not adequate.

he Next Step:
  • Get some time on my son-in-law's table saw and rip two 10' stringers exactly the width of the PVC pipe's ID
    .
  • Pound said stringers into the PVC as internal stringers,
    .
  • Wait for the hull to recover it's flatness
    .
  • Try another night using the re-enforced PVC.
