Saturday was almost perfect. 8-12mph winds gusting to 18-20-ish
I put in around noon and headed up Lake Lanier (North of Atlanta). I went 20.9 miles (4.1 mph avg) yesterday and barring one small issue had nothing but smiles and a great time.

My wife was out of town for the weekend so I wrapped up my Honey-Do-List and headed for the lake. I headed north east (upwind) into pretty good winds. The wind was diminishing as the day went on so I eventually turned around and headed back since I knew with was going to be a long slow trip back downwind.
I had one small issue. I usually tie my furling line and main sheet together on the free ends especially when I am in the back seat. I had moved to the front so I untied them but didnt put a stop knot back in free end of the mail (BAD ME!) At some point I did something and in no time at all the free and had run back through the blocks and the sail was flapping in the wind. (I was running downwind at this point and was trying to get the sail out further) I didnt panic until I saw that the hook for the main was still on the sail! I grabbed it as fast I could. My fear was it would get flung off. I was about 1/4 mile from a small island so I pedaled (Thank God for the Mirage drive) to the leeward side of the island beached it, and re-rigged it. Now I know how to run the main!

Prior to this trip out I made a set of ama keepout lines. It looks like my next project is to rig up a barber-hauler/miniboom/Notched Paddle or something to help with downwind. I also want to play with adding some ballast (5 gallon water bag) to the bow to help keep it down in rough water with my ballasst in the backseat.
Another great day on the water!!

sounds like a good, educational trip! I am curious about ballast as well, the idea of lugging around extra weight just bugs me so I'm also thinking of trading to a AI2. Its really amazing how fast you can put on the miles on these boats. Before getting an island I would sail my catalina 22 about 30 miles in a full day (driving to the sailing area, setting up the boat, sailing, then the reverse). Now, with the TI, I can sail 10 min from the house (gulf is really shallow) and because of the fast setup time and faster sailing speeds I routinely sail 20-25miles AFTER WORK!! how awesome!

congrats on a good long day!
