After probably over a year of consideration, I finally pulled the trigger on a 2017 TI in Golden Papaya. I'll be picking up my new boat and custom configured trailer the end of May. Super excited to get the family out sailing and plan some adventures!

While this will be my first Island, I've had an Outback for about 4 years. Any suggestions for an Island Newbie? Any "must read" threads on this forum?

Looking forward to making some contributions here!

For the "must read" threads first take a look at how to upright an overturned TI. It's unlikely that you'll ever overturn, but all TI owners should know the procedure. Also read the various threads on how to prevent the akas from separating which is an easy fix, and how to prevent the amas from folding in if a shear bolt breaks, also an easy fix. These two mods will toughen your TI considerably and overall improve the safety. Next, read about safety gear such as PFD's, marine radios, and PLB's.

If this is your first sailboat, read the basics on how to sail the TI. The rest you'll learn by getting out on the water. The TI is easy to sail but you have to know the basics. Choose days with mild (5-10 mph) winds until you get the feel of the boat, do not go out in high winds until you're experienced. Take it easy at first and stick near to the shores. Once you gain confidence and experience you can venture out further.

Once you get past all the prerequisite safety and sailing info, have fun reading about all the mods and decide which, if any, make sense for you.

Most of all have fun!
