Anyone else have the "pleasure" of titling and registering their island in the great state of Ohio? Having a hell of a time between title agency, ODNR, and watercraft registration. One says it's a kayak and doesn't need titled, the next says it's a sailboat and needs titled before it can be registered, and the other had no clue. Ahhhhh! Been trying to get this figured out for weeks!

In case anyone else is following this saga. I got a call from the title office this morning. Apparently they spoke with ODNR's watercraft division, which told them it is just a kayak, and as such does not need to be titled. We'll see how this plays out when I go to register it this afternoon.

Quick update...after all the hassle I was finally able to register the TI. Get this! They let me register it as an alternatively powered (paddle/peddle) watercraft. We'll see how well that goes over when I get pulled over with the sail.

Hello neighbor! My TI is in Lexington, MI on Lake Huron. I bought it in 2010 but have never titled or registered it. I have no hull numbers. My lake neighbor just got a ticket on the water for not having hull numbers on his little electric-outboard raft. The Federales told him that you need numbers on any boat with a motor or a sail.

I read the State of Michigan website and it is not clear. It states that Kayaks clearly need no registration numbers. It did not mention the simple "sail = registration" rule.

Anyone else in Michigan survive an encounter with the State water cops without hull numbers on their TI?
