PA storage

So I know this topic has been addressed many times but it seems there is no home run idea on how to store your PA. Mine has been sitting on several pool noodles for about 8 months. No issues all summer but then it sat for 2 months, pulled it out yesterday to hit Tahoe in the no snow snow warm weather, caught 2 browns one 23 inches other 19. Noticed some small indentations in the hull from where it's been sitting. Can someone please tell me the absolute right way to store the PA while leaving it rigged. Seems even f you hoist it it's still flat & will get indentations. Please helP thx

Hang it upside down from the garage ceiling. The gunwales are much much thicker plastic than any of the other side walls and will not distort. As a matter of fact I just hoisted mine up to the garage ceiling last night.

I agree, store it upside down. Here's the setup I use in my garage. http://www.hobiecat.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=78&t=21661 There are a number of us on this forum that have gone this route. It's not a big deal to flip the boat over on the platform. I'm still very happy with this arrangement.

I went with a quick and easy route and used the Handy Hooker system by DRD Corp. Its easy to use and very cost effective for my needs.

It seems DRD Corp. has upgraded the system since I purchased mine early last year, and according to their sales team the new system is much stronger and easier to operate. The new system uses a block and pulley set up that allows storage much closer to the ceiling than the original version.

Hanging it is fine - as long as you rig some sort of 'sling' that goes all the way around the hull - never lift it by attaching to the bow or stern handles - they will fail the parts (inserts) in the hull over time. On any kayak - the deck is the strongest area on the hull, and that's why manufacturers recommend storing them up-side-down. Setting them on their sides is also OK, especially since the PA has a nice surface to rest on, plus there is a foam reinforcement wedged into the sides just to stiffen up the side for this particular reason, along with making them handle the rigors of shipping cross country in containers.

If you want to leave it rigged and ready to go I think the best way is to use the Pro Angler cradles. I haven't noticed any problem at all leaving mine on them. Just remember the material is "soft" and will expand and contract over time with temperature and pressure differences. Small dents can usually be fixed easily by leaving it in the sun to warm up.

My PA has been on cradles for almost 2 years now with no signs of distortion. A benefit to upright storage is easy access to the craft for whatever one might need to do. One should, however, resist the temptation to store a hundred pounds of stuff in the PA while it's sitting there in your garage.
