I just got my pro angler 2 weeks ago and now I want to put a fish finder on it. I've watched some videos of people mounting the transducer inside the hull. I was wondering if that is how you guys did it also and if you mounted it in the water, how did you do it? Also, is there a specific fish finder you guys recommend? I fish mostly the lakes here in East Texas.

Thanks.

I used a Scotty FF mount that is connected to a Mad Frog Liberator with a transducer arm. the entire unit slips into a Scotty rod holder mount that clamps to the side rail. I use a 10 amp battery that is inside a Walmart waterproof box. Everything was installed without drilling any holes anywhere. I use a Humminbird 788ci FF/GPS. What FF you end up with is going to reflect how much money you want to spend.
Yakattack.com also has some cool stuff to mount a FF.
the FF and mounts are visible to my right in the picture

Your going to love the yak......I watched alot of videos on different ways to install my ff. I finally decided to use a product called duct seal. its a soft plato like product. You mold a small well with it and press it onto the hull. Place the transducers inside and fold over to edges to secure it. Add a little water on the days your fishing and its ready to go. I just tried mine on weds and it worked perfect. Ive been trying not to drill holes or glue on my yak while rigging it and so far so good. Duct seal costs about 2 dollars at Home Depot in the elctrical department. Best thing is if it leaks or comes off you just ball it up and make another one right on the shore.... I dont have the link saved right now but I found it on you tube..... just my take on it hope it helps......

I use cheap Tupperware filled with h2o paper taped inside hull behind mast... Works great but have to reset every so often accurate water temps

You referred to water temp on previous post.... Can your FF tell you the water temp through the hull? Or did I misunderstand?

At best, the temp reading would be surface water, which probably has nothing to do with the temp where your lures are. Remember when you were a kid, and did surface dives in the lake? Very warm and comfy up top, much different even 10 or 15 feet down. So I generally ignore this reading.
I can vouch for using a "wet mount". I started out with the usual Goop install for shooting through-the-hull. This worked fine at first, but after several months I noticed decreased sensitivity, which just got progressively worse. I pulled out the transducer and discovered that the Goop had developed thousands of very tiny bubbles, which probably each reduced the acoustic signal. My new install is similar to what MWC359 describes. I did mine a bit differently, though. I used the foam pad from the official Hobie FF kit instead of the putty stuff. I Gooped this to the inside hull, being careful not to get any Goop into the cutout area. I just add a tablespoon of water, pop my transducer in, and am ready for the day. Evenntually I ran a piece of cheap Tygon tubing from the foam pad to the area just below my tackle hatch. I use a 50 cc syringe to deliver water into the gap now, which permits me to add a little more water if I am out for a long time without having to climb around out at sea to get to the transducer itself. Works great.

Yeah it's surface temp but accurate none the less.I fish lake Tahoe 38 degrees 6 ft below surface year around never freezes. I saw yak attack pa pic yesterday rigging on Facebook Hobie fishing page uses a adjusting sliding mount with transducer arm, if I was rerigging I'd use that looks sick go check it out

I haven't used a ff on my Ultimate because it's inshore only & I'm in water that I've known for over 30 years. I have a ff on my OK with a wet transducer (scupper) for accuracy since it's usually in salt water in the gulf. I'm ordering a PA next month and I intend to install a wet transducer in the rear for accuracy since it will be used in Lake Mich. I have to know the best temp possible in the cold region.[/color]
