Ok I am kinda bummed today. I went out to work on the PA and found this dent on the side of the hull. I have only take the yak out once w/o incident. It is being stored on 2" pvcs. I am hoping you all will tell me this is no major concern and that the temperature will make the plastic repaire itself. My question is, why would this happen?

I did not leave the scupper drain plugs open or any compartment for that matter. Could this be the reason?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Even more if I someone can tell me how to fix it immediately.

It seems to me that minor deviations or "dents" along the side of the PA hull are fairly common. They're nothing to worry over and your boat will perform fine. My guess is that it was there all along, and you only see it now due to the way the light is hitting it or something.

I can't really tell just how bad it is from that single photo. If you're very concerned, I'd take some photos and shoot them to your dealer and see what they tell you.

Not to worry, as Tom said it's fairly common and will not effect performance what-so-ever. I'm certain Matt Miller will chime on in at some point. You're in good hands with Hobie. I was told by a Hobie rep a few years back that there is a foam inser to retain the shape. In my opinion, that foam gets in the way of my below deck storage. Just my opinion. You'll be okay. MJ.

Thanks guys. She is still looking pretty to me :) I am hoping warm weather will be able to help her get that dent off. I did call my dealer and send them a few pictures to see what they want to do. I also tried the hot water method w/o using the air pressure. I had my son push on the hull from the inside while I poored very hot water on the outside. It did come out about 90 percent then sunk back in back to 50%.

tape a black garbage bag over it and leave it in the sun for a few hours. Should come out.

Looks just like a dent a friend has in his kayak. His dent tends to come and go with the temperature outside. I hated getting my first scratches and dents in mine now that it's over I feel more relaxed and just fish...lol

Not to worry...

Easy Dent Removal

Kayaks can be dented by various means, no need to worry, they are simple to remove. Improper storage, cart use, freight/transport, too much pressure on tie-down straps all can cause a dent in a kayak. We have the solution. Watch Jacques Bernier in the video linked below. Jacques explains the simple procedure that, as you will see, can remove even a nasty dent in the side rail of a kayak.

Thanks Matt. That was a great tutorial. I tried that method yesterday w/o injecting air. I forgot one step...which was the last step. Im sure if I did it would have been a complete success. That step was to poor ice cold water to the treated area.
