new to hobie looking for some help

i have finely saved and picked up my new 2015 PA 14 now i want to do some trips with it and i'm worried about getting it ripped off when leaving it on a trailer over night any good ideas will be helpful i know i need locks and chains just whats the best

I have seen these used thru the scupper holes.

Congrats on the new PA and welcome to the PA family! I can understand the concern. Basscatlildave's suggestion is a good one. I use a long 15 foot steel cable that is covered in vinyl with loops on the end and a good padlock. I loop the cable through the Mirage Drive wells on both PAs and around the trailer when I have to overnight somewhere that is not secure. I usually take everything off the PAs and put it in the back of the truck for secure storage. That's a little extra work, but it's better to have that piece of mind.

FYI...insurance for kayaks is pretty inexpensive. I carry separate insurance for both PAs and the trailer. I just added the 2015 PA14 with a total value of $4500 to cover the boat and everything on it (rods, livewell, electronics, etc.) and it added $7 a month to the current coverage on the trailer and 2013 PA. That's cheap piece of mind.

Same thing. Upped the insurance.

Plus I hate lugging that thing around. Could imagine that's a pretty big thief deterrent. There's no real sneaking away.

All of the above, I use an 8 foot masterlock cable down through the mirage drive opening and back up around the trailer. Works great. Gives some piece of mind but I'm a firm believer that if they want it they will get it. So I just try to make it as difficult as possible. I also place a masterlock combination lock through the trailer tongue lock down on the ball for towing.

Thank you for all the good ideas . I've been looking for insurance for it my State farm guy said about 150 a year so not to bad . well much better then replacing it

1/2 stainless cable through the drive hole and get some insurance on it as its really affordable . i have the boat covered for $3800 agreed value with $100 deductible. plus there is $5k of sporting goods coverage that covers anything fishing related (or hunting if you do that off the boat) and $2500 of personal item coverage that covers anything from a phone, radio, camera etc with a $50 deductible. it cost a whopping $136 a year.

I also use a 15 foot cable snaked through the drive hole and around trailer rails, secured with a good lock, also - it ties together the two kayaks on my trailer...use a trailer coupler lock, and also insist on keeping the kayaks securely covered any time they lie on the trailer....always did this to my bikes on motorcycle tours, and it was good for peace of mind. Became a habit. None of this has stopped me from checking on the kayaks at odd hours, however....
