So let's get this straight...you bought a bare hull from someone that was parting out the boat. That should have been your first clue to back out of the deal. Typically if someone is parting out a boat is because the hull is too far gone to repair and they are trying to get as much money out of the boat minus the hull. You were looking for a deal on a second hand boat, which we can all understand. By trying to "revive" this boat you are going to spend more on parts than you would if you had just purchased a complete second hand boat. (i.e. bare hull + aftermarket parts > complete boat). Face it, you got a bad deal. But then to come complaining to hobie about the price of parts and recalls doesn't help your cause. I can appreciate you wanting to take your kid out on the most stable kayak in the market. However, if even a second hand hobie was out of your price range, then sometimes you just have to accept that you can't get that boat. So, what are your options? As I see it you have 2 options. 1) Continue down the path of rebuilding the boat and suck up the cost. When you're done you you'll have a great boat. 2) Stop buying parts. Part out what you can, sell the hull for what you can, and go shopping for a different boat. Either way you end up with a boat. Just remember, lots of people on this forum are more than willing to help, but you won't get that help if you aren't nice.
