Hello,

I know they say to push one of the pedals fully forward when the Hobie Mirage Drive is in shallow water. The question I have is ... should the pedal lock forward? I moved my foot off the pedal to reach to get my paddle, and the pedals centered and ended up hitting the bottom with the fins. I wan't happy.

Thanks!

The retention strap (shock cord with big plastic hook) on the PA is normally clipped on the left side, so to hold the flippers up against the hull you would need to push the right pedal forward so the left pedal can be held by the retention strap. The setup can be reversed as the strap/shock cord can be clipped on either side. The retention strap is the "locking" mechanism.

You can still pedal the mirage drive with the strap on, when we are approaching shallow water I just put the clip on, if I take my feet off the pedals the fins fold safely against the hull when you hit the rapids (just kidding).

You can pick one up from ACK or your local Hobie dealer for around $13.99. I think the part number is 80012001 but you might ask Matt Miller to verify that. Below is the link to bungee and hook.

What you'll need is the shock chord Pedal Retainer (Part No. 80012001).

Depending on whether or not you have an attachment point for the pedal retainer, you may need to also purchase she Shock Chord End for mounting to the deck (Part No. 71115001).
