[quote="Tombsy"]I don't want to buy an 8 foot length of 1" pvc just for 4" I was thinking of drilling thru the collar and putting a screw or bolt thru until I find some. Bad idea?

Most hardware stores sell shorter lengths of pvc or do what I did and buy a 8" schedule 40 nipple and cut out a couple of pieces to length. I used 1.25" diameter. It's been awhile but, I think 1" was too tight.

Thanks, I'll double check the size and go rummage in the plumbing section.

I just bought a PA14 and had simultaneously ordered the cart. But, my Jackson Kraken is no little cupcake, though it is lighter than the PA14. It's a pain in the butt to use a cart with it, unless I remove all my gear. But even then it's not a simple task. So, after I placed my order, I found the Boonedox LG. I canceled the Hobie cart and ordered it. They shipped immediately! I received the boat Friday afternoon, the Boonedox a few hours earlier. I had the landing gear installed within an hour (I had no solid core wire laying around...just some multi-stranded stuff. The wire trick to seat the plates worked great, but it took a little patience and finessing).

I am really happy with the landing gear. So happy, as a matter of fact, I am going to buy another one to install on my Kraken. I love only having to tip the boat slightly to install the wheels. I will probably never keep the wheels on while I am out on the water, but that is another advantage over the cart...you can swing them up out of the way, and have wheels down whenever you need them.

Went down to the local hardware store's underground sprinkler system section and bought a 1 1/4" t joint. It cost me a $1.25 and a bit of time. Sure an engineer should have caught this so I could avoid the work but I think I like this better than the welds. Hopefully the PVC holds up, wish I had a flat piece of steel to protect the bottom of the PVC. All and all I am OK with it but was lucky to see this thread.

So, if I might suggest a solution that will improve the dispersal of information:
On the product pages have a link for support (updates?), maintenance and manuals for that particular model line. That is the way all the computer part manufacturers and a lot of other companies do it.

I just had a new heavy duty cart delivered from ACK last week. No spot welds. Needed to use the cart, so I set up the collars in what seemed to be the right spot from what I could find online. After loading my PA 12 back in the truck after getting off the lake...noticed that the collars had slipped all the way down.

Can anyone from Hobie at least list the size these PVC sleeves need to be?

Holy crap ! That didn't break your yak ? I do not see how you did that. I have used mine repeatedly with a fully loaded PA 14 and have to pull it over many softball size rocks and such and through sand as well for 100 yards in and out where i fish and mine has never even started to bend...what happened ?

Tennis balls above the collar with collar pretty much all the way down works for me. Also works like a shock absorber ...

Can you still use the pin, or does that make the posts sit too low?

can still use the pin but its tight. I just roll mine on to its side, shove it in and once the weight of the yak is on the cart i can get it all the way in no problem but its kind of pointless at that point to put the pin in. When i slide it out the back of my truck enough to insert the cart i can get the pin in one side of the cart ( enough to hold it in place while i set it down )...

Oh, and make sure you don't just slit the tennis balls and shove them down. Actually cut some holes in them not quite as big round as the cart but almost....

It was a tough launch, round rocks and soft sand at low tide the wheels sank between the rocks. My yak is pretty heavy with motor and batteries we pulled it out with a quad :) even it got stuck a couple times.

It was totally worth it, surrounded by killer whales fly fishing for pinks and Northern Coho's. Paradise.ImageImage
