Howie,

I'm getting a 2017 Outback when they ship in a few months. Are the Mirage Drive 180 ST Turbo fins the same size for the Outback as the Pro Angler? Thanks!

Steve

Yes, they are. The Outback doesn't come standard with Turbos unless you ordered the Camo color.

So if I get a Papaya 2017 Outback, the fins are going to be smaller that a camo colored Outback? I'm a little disappointed to hear that in that I had planned on being able to use that drive in both the Outback and the Pro Angler. I figured the price increase for the camo Outback I am seeing online (stating the camo itself costs more) was due to the color and not the size of the fins on the drive. Not thrilled with having to pay for extra fins if that is indeed the case.

Please show me what the difference between the fins looks like. I cannot believe that Hobie is not making the fins standard on their main fishing kayak for the past 15 years.

If purchasing a Papaya 2017 Outback, you can upgrade to turbo fins through your dealer once the turbo upgrade kits become available. The turbo fin is the same shape as the standard fin, just slightly larger. 2017 Pro anglers all come standard with MD 180 Turbos.

As Howie note, the Outback has always come with the standard fins....when I bought my 2010 Outback in 2009, it came with the standard fins......I quickly "upgraded to Turbo fins and the sailing rudder" since I was having trouble "down rigger tracking"......the Turbo fins made for less effort pedaling while the sailing rudder made tracking a non-issue.

Since 2010, I know the PA's came equipped, as standard equipment with "turbo fins".

Dr.,

Thanks for the clarification. Silly me was under the impression that recent Outbacks came with the Turbo fins.

Howie,

Sorry for being a pill. Looking forward to getting the new Outback when they come in. Do you know if the Turbo fins will be available when the 2017 models ship so I can upgrade the fins then? Thanks!

Not likely… production always takes all of the materials until they get ahead. May be a number of months before the upgrade kit is available, and that depends on fin production issues.

MSRP on the 2017 Camo Outback is set at $150 more than the dune and papaya colors, and will come standard with MD 180 Turbo fins and large rudder.

Sounds good, do you know if they fixed the skeg spectra routing and grommet problem for 2017?

Maybe you're thinking of the PA skeg? ... Outback doesn't have a skeg; only a rudder.

Yeah, not talking about the outback. Just realized you were in the last post, PA msrp for dune and camo?
