Hello fellow Hobians!! This is my first post, I'm proud to announce I recently acquired a 2015 hobie pa 14!!! Can't wait to wander the waters here in central FL. This PA though came bare, stripped of everything, so I'm piecing everything. Please any advice for upgrades, accessories, DIYs.....

Welcome to the addiction BocaChico. First question: why did your PA14 come stripped of everything? Was this a warranty replacement hull?

Tell everyone where your starting from and what your thoughts and plans are, and you will get some good ideas and advice from some very smart people on this forum...and some not so smart people like myself!

Congratulations on the new PA! Your going to love it!

Well, I am guessing that this hull was replaced under warranty with a new hull and the previous owner moved everything to the new one. First order of business would be to determine if the crack has been repaired or not. Ordinarily this can be accomplished by sealing up all the hatch access points with cardboard and duct tape, leaving one open enough to connecting to a shop vac or similar blower. Then inflate the hull and spray soapy water around the repaired crack to see if it bubbles. In your case, I suspect that you will need to close up lots of screw holes where rails, sideboards, stern plugs and other fittings used to be. IF your hull passes a leak test, looks like an expensive rebuild will be necessary to acquire the numerous replacement parts that yours is missing. Ironic, but Craigslist will be your friend, especially if you can find a cheap PA being sold due to a hull defect.

I agree with STL,

Not sure what you paid for that hull. Hopefully it was little or nothing. You best bet to getting some of the major parts, would be looking for someone who totaled their 2015 or newer PA. That way the parts would be available. The sheer cost of getting all the pieces (new) to make it usable would almost be better spent purchasing a used Pro Angler. That hull does look like it was abused.

Wow, I was hoping it had something left to work with. I think you are looking at more money that it would be worth to restore. I would put money on the parts alone being $2000+. Full seat and seat assembly, rudder and lines, skeg, not to mention Mirage Drive and even the click and goes. I would walk away unless you are made of money, or happen upon a wrecked PA someone is looking to get rid of that has the parts you need.

Take a look around the (round) hatch flange opening... there should be a serial number etched there. That will tell us the year and vintage so you would know what was on it to begin with.

Thank you guys for your input.... That's a really good tip for checking for leaks... I know pricing the parts for would cost a small fortune I'm planing to get the most necessary enough to get me the water and in due time get an upgrade.... This would be the poor mans hobie lol

Looks like a warranty replaced unit. I would suspect the repair at the back is where they cut the serial number out.

With the cost of a seat, Mirage drive and rudder assembly, then it will be a nightmare running the cables for the rudder, I'm not sure it will be worth your time.
