I have the same issue, very stiff if I want full right or left rutter.

I also was frustrated with stuff steering? However after weeks of tinkering and following the steering cables, I noticed that the cables were pinched, where they come thru the yak behind the seat. My cables ran outside the seat, I noticed the cutout ( trough ) under the seat, and ran my cables under the seat and minimized any Binding on the cables and have had no issues since!!!! Hope this helps, I may look into that larger drum tho, I do have the 2010
