It's the same one i bet mine is stupid long I can cut about 3-4 foot off the tongue. Stern to tongue is right at 20'.

I am still thinking as I would rather my wife let me sell the outfitter and get an 15 outback for soloing but she wants to be able to take other couples/family and let them use the outback.... but for the second rack it would be one C piece and bolts in the frame.

Might even make a cowl for the bow of the PA and make a box above that.... still dorking and trying to think of ways to store the seats... they are about 2x2x2 closed up.

Anyone have experience with the Malone Top Tier rack? I am curious it I can just u bolt the risers to my trailer using the one of the brakes that come with the kit.... I am going to get a welding quote first but I really don't want to get too crazy, just need a rack to support the other yak.

If you could figure out how to rig that it would be perfect for what I was looking for. I just want to mount the bikes over the top of my boat.

You might want to look at this conversion kit at Oak Orchard Canoe. It utilizes Yakima cross bars so a lot of options on accessory mounts. The uprights are also adjustable. I have not purchased yet but intend to in the next week. I have a Triton jet ski trailer with the PVC pipes for the PA14 but need a top rack for the WS Ride 115X.

That might work. The part I like about the malone is the brackets that hold the uprights. It looks like I could just buy some different u-bolts and be set.

I am going to try to get the yak off the trailer this weekend and take the trailer to a welder to get a quote first to see. If I can get them to do something for under 500 I will just let them do it and make the trailer solid. I have my outfitter up for sale anyways but I would still like a rack for the trailer to mount a box to to store/lock up my drives and stuff. Also want to get the lights up and out of the water when I launch this thing.

So currently plan is to move the frame w/axle up 28 inches (flip it around) this will leave 28 inches of the tongue bar hanging past the axle box that I will have to weld a cross bar to build the back part of the frame. Then mount boxes or put a rack up top. By moving the axle i won't have to submerge the wheels to launch I think. We'll see.

In talks with a welder/fab now. Also going to see about making the front rack have a little bar come out of it at the top so I can pull out the bar, put the bow on the bar, pick up the stern and put it on the rack, slide the bow over and push the bar in. Then I can load it and off load it by myself. I think the rhino rack is like that.

After all this design I might not even use the rack to store a yak. The wife is letting me sell the outfitter but I don't know if I can get a PA 12 to replace it... so the rack might get shorten to just be for bikes, storage boxes, camping gear more to come.

Anyone else out there trailering a PA17 yet? I would love to see setups.....

Any idea if the trailer cradles Hobie sells work with the 17t? I am considering getting a 17 but haven't made up my mind between one 17 or two 14's.

Yes they have 17T cradles. Work fine for me I put the rear one in the water and I can pull the yak up without a winch. Just need to get a bow stop so I have something to tie it two!

When you say cheaper stick trailer, what kind of trailer/ where did you get it? Currently exploring options for my new 17.

Yep nothing fancy but it works. Still working on my rack idea but cant find the time lately.

Ti_tom : i was thinking and i don't think the rack i am designing would work for you as you wont be able to rig the boat on the trailer with it, id cant open the amas.

That's why I was thinking about making it removable with pins. I don't plan on having the upper rack on unless I'm transporting bikes as well. Looks like I might bolt something together using unistrut. It's the same stuff holding the big water pipes up in the mole hole.

Yeah I bought some strut and some steel in some sizes to play with and that stuff is heavy. Not something easily removed and put on all the time.... I am leaning towards a pipe solution now. I gots ideaz...

Oh Lord help us...he's thinking! Lol! I can sketch something up but I wouldn't feel comfortable buying supplies until I have the boat and trailer and I can take accurate measurements. So, for now I will just kick ideas around. Were did you pick up the unistrut?
