Just bought a pro angler 12 no battery for fish finder

Hi guys I'm new to the forum and owning a Hobie Recntly bought a Hobie pa 12 second hand all looks good but the seller failed to mention that the fish finder didn't come with a battery, in the ad or when I picked it up. I've had a look around but still a bit unsure of what to get.

Hi Chris,
All you need is a "typical" 12V, 7 to 9 amp Gel battery. It'll fit in the rear hatch of the PA. Or you can get a battery holder that mounts inside the front hatch on the sail post. This is the type of battery thatmost "guys" use.
It's the same size as in emergency lighting boxes, Uniterruptable Power Supplies for your computers, etc. They're available all over, Radio Shack, Amazon, etc, or go to one of the kayak accessories vendors like Austin Kayak. You'll also need a charger, and the Battery Tender Junior is perfect for these batteries and will charge and keep them topped up year round.

Any good sporting goods store sells deer feeder batteries that are perfect for about $20. Or an auto parts store will handle lawnmower or motorcycle batteries ( a bit more expensive) that work just as good. You might want to check with your local dealer for a holder that is designed to fit inside the PA, either the rear hatch or inside the front hatch. I prefer the front hatch because there is less wire to run (since your unit will probably be mounted in front of you on the mounting boards) and doesn't have to be run inside the hull.

I use the remco battery kit made for hobie kayaks. it has everything except for a fuse and fuse block. I think it cost like $80. For cheap I saw someone using a drill battery with an improvised pvc harness with copper wire contacts drilled into the pvc fitting and siliconed in place. I wish I had a picture. The guy said he never had any problems, but I don't think I would want to use it. I know a couple guys that are always raving about garage door batteries. but I never saw them set up.

I agree with Tim man. Great to use the Hobie instal kit #3 made by remco. Comes with everything you need. Very simple to instal and operate

The Hobie version has water proofed poles and plug.
