Extension Rack for Pro Angler ?

Anybody using this exact extension rack on a Chevrolet pickup for their Pro Angler ? Thanks

Those bed extensions work great for a pro angler. They give you that rear support.

Just pulled the trigger on it. Hope it works ok and lines up. I plan on using PVC pipe in the bed of the truck to set the yak on. It should raise up enough to support it.

I too just pulled the trigger on a PA 14. Am picking up a gently used 2014 next Tuesday. I searched this forum for ideas on transportation and settled on using a bed extender and 3" PVC tubing in the truck bed for the Yak to ride on. My F150 has the 6'6" bed and I think this method will work very well. I am using someones idea to ziptie the PVC to a couple 2x4 cross braces keeping them loose until the yak settles in and then I will tighted them up. I will post how well it all worked.

When I first purchased my PA-14 I used a Lund bed extender. I set it up with 3 inch PVC on the crossmembers and 2.5 inch PVC on the uprights. I really don't see any reason to run PVC under the Hobie because it is just for transportation not storage. I always removed it from the truck upon returning home.


I think the second pic shows how it is set up. I have since purchased a trailer but I will use the extgender for the places I can't take a trailer to because of parking.


The yak is rock solid on the extender. The PVC protects the hull when loading and unloading. I also have a short bed Ford.

Thanks fellas. Got my bed extender in. Looks like it will do the trick. Only thing i don't like about it is it barely makes it up past the bed of the truck on the highest setting and the adjustable support also has an extremely loose fit as in flopping around. A little tweaking and it will do the job so fair enough...now all that is left is for the long awaited boat show !

You could make a "marine bunk" and mount it to the crossbar, which will aid in loading/unloading & protect the hull. I removed the adjustment pins and thru-bolted everything, this helped solidify the extender.
I did this when a moved from a "conventional" kayak to the PA12, got a piece 02x4 Pressure Treated wood (width of the bar) and wrapped it in marine-bunk carpet. I mounted it to the bar with stainless steel machine screws (6), worked perfect.
With the switch to the '15 Outback, I added a Malone SeaWing to support the v-hull.

I have one and have used it on a number of yaks, I brought my PA home on it, but then went to a trailer... it's a great piece of equipment, cheap and handy to have around.

I think all of them do this. I had one of these but my 98 Nissan Frontier (Nissan Navara in Oz) is much lower than your truck. Where it makes the 90 degree turn up would often drag on uneven ground or soft sand. I had an opportunity to pick up a T-Bone bed extender on sale and am much happier with it. One advantage is has besides the curved shape is how light it is.

Just picked up my previously loved PA 14 yesterday. I used the Lund truck bed extender and the 3" PVC the length of the Yak under the hull. Everything worked well and the yak rode very solid for the 10 1/2 hrs home. I agree the clip lock bolts allow the bed extender pieces to rattle around a lot making it seem unstable but it all worked ok. Might look at hard mounting some of the pieces but then you loose flexability. All in all a nice tool to have.

Anyway she is home now safe.

I picked up that exact bed extender for my Toyota T100 and it didn't work. That T-bar doesn't raise up high enough. Hope it works for your Chevy.

You could add one of these to the hitch for your T100 issue

@Jbernier. Thanks for the suggestion. Didn't even know those existed.

My little truck is kinda low to the ground and I had trouble with my first bed extender dragging when I drove over uneven ground. I bought a T-bone bed extender and resolved that problem. It is also super light in comparison to the square tube versions. It's a little pricey though, but I certainly like it much better.
