Hi - We're looking to buy a Hobie PA in the future. I expect that I will be using it alone MOST of the time, but occasionally my wife may want to ride along on short trips. I come in at 230 and wife is about 160. Could the PA 12 accommodate?

Thanks!

It has a 500 pound capacity. The PA14 has a 600 pound capacity. I know you would be fine in the PA14. Maybe one of the PA12 folks will respond. :D

From my limited experience, don't do it. You and your wife will go for a swim. The 12 is a little tippy and if you turn the rudder too fast you will get wet. Especially with a passenger.

I really wanted the PA-12 just because it was smaller. When I went and checked on em I bought the PA-14. It was a 100 bucks more , 2 feet longer , 100 lbs more capacity and only weighed 20 lbs more. I felt like I got a lot more boat for 100 buck :D . Me at 185 and my little girl at 80 lbs we spent 3 hours in it with no problems. She walked all around from front to back and it was rock solid. Good luck on your decision and by the way I saw the PA-17 is person and its fine.

Don't worry about using the PA14 alone. It's a great solo boat. I agree with the previous post. I bought mine (+$100 than my buddy that bought a PA12 at the same time) and you get a lot more boat for the extra bucks. And it's as stable as a rock so your wife will appreciate not getting tipped!

Have fun!

I hope you don't have the same issue as I did when I bought my PA 12. I can't get my wife off my PA looking to buy her a sport here soon.

I took a lady friend out a few days ago in my PA12, we spent about 3 hours on the water. She fell asleep on the back. It's plenty stable. I spent half the time standing up fly fishing with her on the back at the same time.
