Broken Pedal Retaining Bolt

Hi All,

I could use some help with a repair I'm struggling with. Unfortunately I have no nearby dealers I can go to and I can't find any information regarding this when I search the forum.

The nut that holds the pedal on to the top part of the shaft has broken off my mirage drive. Can this be replaced without having to purchase a whole new shaft? I think it all might be one piece, but I'm not entirely sure.

See the image below regarding the location of the bolt and nut. It's actually behind the little cover and holds the pedal on to the shaft.

If the nut is broken, you can get a new one at any hardware store (preferably stainless). Nyloc or nut/lock washer so it doesn't back out.
If the shaft is broken you need a new pedal assembly.
If it is less than 2 years old, contact your local dealer to file a warranty claim.

Thanks for the welcome! The nut isn't broken, nor is the main shaft. However, the piece that is attached to the main shaft that the pedal slides onto is broken. It looks like this is held onto the main shaft with a pin, but I don't want to start beating on it without knowing. Is this piece replaceable or do I simply have to buy a whole new main shaft?

If you have the tools, you can drill and tap the shaft, then fit a machine screw and washer to hold the pedal in place (using Loctite Blue to hold the screw in place). Otherwise you need to buy a new crank arm / pedal assembly (comes complete). I'm guessing your Drive is over 2 years old and not covered by warranty. See your local dealer for warranty questions, price and ordering.

That's an unusual failure -- normally there is not much stress there. Looks like corrosion might have been the culprit.

Thanks for the tip. It does look like corrosion. We'll blame the guy I bought it from as I have religiously washed this baby down after every use.
