Hey guys recently cleaned out the shed and I want the hobie to be mounted on the wall on its side. I was wondering how to do this, if it will deform the hull and if there is a better alternative to mounting it on its side. Cheers

Having been a forum member since 2009, all I can tell you is side mounting of Hobie Mirage Kayaks is not recommended since the hull can deform.....heat accelerates the process.
Storing upside down is the best method followed by the hull being well supported on the bottom.

I have a 2013 PA-14 and store it on my trailer, on top of 3" OD PVC parallel pipes inside my garage. To date, I have not seen any issues with the hull deforming....rarely does the ambient temperature reach 100 F during the summer.

This photo will give you a basic idea of my Hobie Trailex modified trailer set up.

I like my trailex too and really happy with my buying experience from this company. I only bought thge 2 crossbars for hobie cradles after buying a used SUT 220 for $650.00. I feel good knowing the kayak is now sitting on the recommended cradles with wood crossbar in the middle barely touching the hull. I'll take pictures this weekend and share to you guys.

My only remaining concern with my Trailex setup is the rear cradle being fixed Mounted on top of the Trailex crossbar. I think the Hobie cradle should be able to freely move so as not to put too much tension to its rear lips when dragging the kayak back to the trailer. The cradle should able to move like a seesaw. I'll open a new topic to see if someone thought about doing this...

If you look at my trailer photo, you can see the angled PVC pipes that lead to the aft support.
I used 11 degree couplers on the 3" PVC parallel pipes......you could do/consider something like this, leading to the aft Hobie cradle......just a suggestion.

Does anyone have a photo of the bottom of the Hobie cradles? I have never seen one in person. But I have an idea in my mind that you might be able to use the mounting brackets from a couple of keel rollers to add a bit of swivel to the cradle especially the one on the rear of the trailer. Most of them are pretty low profile as well. So the cradles would not be me more than a few inches off the trailer bed or bunks if you kept those.
