Interesting, Matt. I wondered about that when I was at the local dealer recently and we removed a PA14 from the display platform. As I recall, the display rack was foam padded rigid pipe, so although the foam would give a little bit radially there was no opportunity for longitudinal distortion. The nice thing about PVC is that it bends easily to fit the hull profile and probably provides more surface contact area for load distribution than your display rack. If your in-store display rack experience is the basis for Hobie's "official recommendation" about not using PVC for storage and transport, that may not be a valid comparison. I would certainly not consider transporting my PA on a support as stiff as your in-store display racks.
