I just watched the presentation from iCast and the video on the Hobie website. This looks very interesting. I am hoping that when they are released my dealer will have a demo drive for me to test. Would love to see some real world stats on how those fins peddle versus the Turbo Fins on my current Mirage Drive.

Similar feel and performance to existing ST and ST Turbo fins.

Will the 2016 back mirage drive be able to be converted to this or is buying an entirely new mirage drive required?

All these questions are answered in the press release here: http://www.hobiecat.com/blog/hobie-introduces-miragedrive-180-forward-reverse-system,562/

Quote:
The MirageDrive 180 will be standard with all 2017 model year Mirage kayaks, including the legendary Outback and award-winning Pro Anglers. MSRP will increase by $150 for single model MirageDrive kayaks and $300 for tandem MirageDrive kayaks. 2017 model year kayaks are slated to begin shipping in October 2016. The MirageDrive 180 is retrofitable to existing MirageDrive kayaks and is expected to be available as a stand-alone accessory by mid-year 2017.

Only the drums, pedals and some chains are the same. Conversion? Not worth it. Parts and drives will not be available to purchase separate from boats until mid 2017.

Prize of a mirage drive GTT is 619.00. Does it mean the reverse version will be around 770.00?

any chance you need help beta testing a stand-alone 180 drive, say to gather 'in the field' data from extensive fall salmon fishing in, say for example, an older Oasis and a newer i11s? I could send a resume (Materials Scientist, UC Berkeley)... :D

My hobie dealer is telling me there will be a kit available to add the reverse function to older drives, is there any validity to this?

No. No "kit". Just will be available as complete drives.

With my PA17T the mirage drive can be pulled up and put back in backwards to get reverse. Obviously not as easy and cool as the new drive, but at least it's possible. Can all Pro Anglers do this or is it only the 17T?

Inserting the Mirage drive "backwards" works in all Hobie kayaks for "reverse".
