It is my pleasure to announce that Nick Bostic, the Charleston, SC, Fleet 53 Commodore, is also the new Hobie Class Association Division 9 Chairman. Nick is a seasoned Hobie 16 racer and was the driving force behind getting one-design Hobie 16 classes included in the James Island Annual Regatta, in Charleston Harbor, in June of the past two years. Please welcome Nick and work with him as he continues to reinvigorate Hobie sailing.
I think that we can all agree that one of the biggest challenges that the multihull sailing and racing communities is bringing new people into the sport. Consider this: few new sailors will have the inclination to purchase an expensive box rule boat (F16, F18), let alone the competence to sail one, at least not competitively. But new Hobies can be purchased much cheaper, and good used ones are relatively plentiful and less expensive yet. It is in the best interests of all multihull sailors to support healthy Hobie classes, particularly the Hobie 16 class, to draw new sailors into the sport.
Please support Nick as he continues to grow the Hobie classes and encourages one-design Hobie racing.
