I modified my trailer to pull double duty as a light weight utility trailer at home while my H16 is at the beach nearly full time.
I'm struggling with a good method to transport the sails and boom. I took long look at the typical large tube solution or toy box solutions but decided against them because they are either too expensive, they would interfere with the tool boxes I've mounted towards the front of the trailer, and then there is storing them when I'm in "utility" mode which is a lot of the time.
I ended up mounting two 4" pieces of PVC under the trailer bed (above the axle) to store the boom and battens, thinking I'd just roll and fold the sails and use a sail bag in my SUV when trailering.
I know this is not good practice with new or high performance sails for those hard core racers out there but my sails are original '81s and I'm a family/recreation sailor so bagging them is fine with me.
My question is, has anyone done this and are there issues with folding the sails like this that I don't know about? Knowing that's how bigger boats do it I thought it would be ok.
What I don't like about doing this is the added setup/breakdown time and effort. At this point I'm just fishing for ideas.
Thank you all in advance!
