SAILING SCHOOLS

HELLO LOOKING FOR A HOBIE SAILING SCHOOL ANYBODY HAVE ANY IDEAS

The best sailing school that I know of is the Bitter End Yacht Club, on the island of Virgin Gorda in the British Virgin Islands. Check with Matt Miller.....he has to inspect them once a year! You will, however, need a silver plated credit card for the hotel's nightly rates.

Whereabout are you???

Look for a sailing club in your area....ask if they offer instruction in CYA or AYA standards, (White Sail I, II, III etc), ask around who can help you with cats.

You'll generally find you have to learn to sail first, then 'grow' into cats.
While many people first learn on a Hobie Wave at a resort, most commonly they learn monohull sailing first, then rise up the ranks.

Look for a cat sailing fleet in your area...cat sailors are very willing to help out, a very social bunch.

You know what would be a good idea? Turn you CAPS lock off.

Since you already know how to sail, the transition to cats should not be difficult. Cats generally don't point as well as mono-hulls and management of travellers and sail shape needs at little more attention if you want to push the boat without always ending up in the water. Start with light to moderate winds and experiment with different points of sail verses traveller and sheet tension settings. Ricks White's DVD would be an invaluable asset. I believe Mariner sails offers some type of classes at their shop in texas to refine your racing type skills a few times a year.

deepcman66 - Contact the Mission Bay Aquatic Center in San Diego, CA. They teach classes in all aquatic sports and have taught many people how to sail Hobie cats over the last 40 years. They have many Hobie Cats at their facility.

Since you're on the Gulf coast try Key Sailing in Pensacola. I don't think they have a "sailing school" per se, but I know that they would take you out on the water for as long as you want/need/can afford. And Capt. Kirk, the owner, is a super guy.
