I am thinking about buying a Hobie Bravo and would appreciate hearing from someone who has sailed one, or owns one. I am interested in the feel of the boat, speed, reliabilty, trailering, launching, etc.

A little background: Although I am confident the Bravo will be ideal for wife, grandkids, neice/nephew, etc, and a small dingy is the only thing that fits into our lives right now, I am seeking some assurance that I will also enjoy the boat. Although I am an experienced sailor (ex H16 racer, former owner of 18SX, Catalina 22, 16.5; have chartered big cats in the Carib and Australia), I love small boats (e.g. Sunfish, Laser, Windsurfer, etc). I really enjoy the acceleration, simplicity, ease of handling in heavy winds, etc. Although the Getaway is also very interesting to me, it doesn't fit into the life picture right now.

Thanks in advance for your insights!

The bravo is a great boat, something along the lines of a Laser. Great to sail alone, or great for a couple of kids.

Do you have room for just one step bigger? The Hobie wave will handle two large adults with ease. I bought one recently for the my kids to ride on and my niece to sail. My father sailed across the bay and picked up his friend, the friends son and grandson. This could not be done on the bravo. The only real question is storage and transportation. The wave is small enough and light enough that my small wife and I can lift it onto the small aluminum boat we trailer it on without any problem. The two part mast makes storing and transporting it no problem at all.

Thank you for your reply. I will take a closer look at the Wave, and possibly the Getaway.
