I stopped by and looked at that Hobie on Solley Rd. It's a little rough, but it might have possibilities. I called the number on the "FOR SALE" sign, of course the woman who answered the phone knew nothing about it except that it was her nephews and that I should call back when her husband would be home after 6:30PM since he knew about the boat. So I called at 7:30PM giving him time to settle in after work. I think instead I ended up giving him time to dive into a bottle of burbon! He was either plastered or stupid and rude. Here is how the call went:
-Hi, I'm calling about the Hobie for sale...
-Yea?
-Can you tell me a little about it?
-Whats to tell? It's a boat! There is 2 pontoons, canvas, and ahhh...you sit on it! I mean what else is there? (Loud and slurring).
-What year is it?
-I...I don't know!
-Well thanks for the information, good-bye.
So either this guy was drunk or had some deep mental issues. Seeing the huge "NO TRESPASSING" sign and all the junk around the yard, it could be either or maybe both.
That poor nephew will never get that boat sold with a blithering idiot like that trying to sell it for him. I don't know, maybe I'll give it some time and revisit it in a few days. If the sails are in good shape it might be worth a shot. They haven't seen me in person so I'll just act like I stumbled across it. If stupidity runs in the family, maybe I can convince them to pay ME to take it away!
I'd rather spend a little more and get something newer, but it IS a possibility.
