rivits for tramp side rails of h18

I need to reattach the tramp side rails on my 18 and need to find the correct rivits

Are theese the correct ones?
HC 8010121 RIVET, 6-10 PN HD MONEL

Could some one explain the measeurements of this rivit? So I can go to a spanish nautical shop and find the right one...

Go to http://www.hobiecat.com/sailing/accessories.html and download the entire catalog. Go to the back and find the 18 section. You'll find a rivet list that should do the job.

I know thats where I got the reference and rivit model I put in the first post...but as you can understand I cant go to a Spanish nautical store and say give me 10 Hobie cat reference 8010121 rivits.They wont hav a clue!

I need the rivit measurements in metric if possible...

The panhead 6-10 is 3/16" x 3/4".... 4.75mm x 19mm

p.s. Yes, those are the correct rivets.

The Dog, I recently got some screw hatches for my 18 and you sent some rivets that are about 4.75mm diametre and 27mm long?

I did not use them on the hatches so would they do fot this job?
also I need some stainless steel washers that hug the rivet to give it more strenght correct?

Those rivets are probably too long for the job. I would think that you wouldn't be able to get them tight.

I'm going to have to defer to Matt on that and the question about the washers, because I just don't know for 100%.

Yes you do need the washers!! The rivets will pull out without them. It's a complete pain to do this job with the tramp in place and the boat on the trailer. And, you can only do it with the tramp in place if you are only replacing a fey rivets. If you're doing the whole bar, take the tramp all the way off. It takes 2 guys and a pair of needle nose pliers. Send one guy underneath to hold the washers in place. Make sure they are seated up against the fiberglass and around the rivet or it will come off when you pop the rivet. The washers are slightly wavy so you can grab them with the tip of the pliers. So what rivet lenght should I use? and what about the washers? normal ones? external tooth ones?

i believe there is a wahser made for rivits in each of the sizes of rivits made.

Call up your local Hobie dealer and they will have the exact rivet and washer that you need. The washers are stainless, 3/16 hole in the center and have a slight wave. They are made specifically for using with rivets.

I was looking at doing this to my boat this spring but decided that it was too much work and I wanted to go sailing instead. I did notice that the space betweent eh hull and the deck lip is very tight. You may want to get the actual washers Hobie specifies so they will fit in the space without any modification.

If you decide to not buy the specific washer, do not use a toothed washer (internal or external), a square washer, or a fender washer. Just use a flat washer and grind the outside edges down just enough so it will fit in the space available.
